Master Chef Competition
HEYYALL!!!
I Just want to say THANK YOU JESUS!
JESUS is amazing!
So to update you guys, Colin, Peter and I made it to the FINALS of the cooking competition! =D It’s crazy! I don’t know how we made it, but man, God is somehow blessing us!
So since I didn’t really post about it, Colin peter and I entered a cooking competition (like chopped but not as intense) called Master Chef NYU. So this competition originally started out with 40 teams I believe, and after a recipe screening, 16 teams were left (I might be wrong). And so the competition layout is 1st round Breakfast, 2nd round Lunch, 3rd round Dinner, Final round 3 course meal.
1st round: Breakfast
So we decided to make an Omelet with Smoked Salmon, diced peppers and tomatoes with a side of whole wheat toast. To go with the toast we made an Almond chocolate spread and our own strawberry jam with a kick of lemon zest & peel.
The judges liked it! especially the strawberry jam! Props to my roommates (Peter & Colin).
2nd Round: Lunch
This round was scary, because we ALMOST LOST!
So our original menu is a pan-seared sea bass with julienned red and yellow peppers paired with a raspberry vinaigrette salad with apples and walnuts. But then, right before the day of the competition they told us they had no sea bass, and when we got there they had no raspberries. So we had to change up our recipe, and ended up making a pan-seared salmon with a tomato relish. and instead of the raspberry vinaigrette, we made it with blueberries. So at the end, as we served up our meal, the judges told us that the salmon was undercooked! and we were all like, OH NO! we thought we were out FOR SURE!
But somehow, unexpectedly, we made it pass this round! It was one of happiest and craziest fluctuation of my emotions that I’ve ever experienced.
We were thanking God like no other.
And then! later on that day (with my crazy emotions), I had an interview that you guys kept me in prayers for, and it went SO WELL! I was like blabbering on and on like I am now, and used some of the cooking competitions as examples. At the end, I even gave her recommendations (shes not from NY) for restaurants and it was just a good experience talking to her!
THEN! retreat happened and God is AMAZING!
THEN THEN THEN! I GOT an email from MARRIOTT! and I got to final rounds! I’m going to Orlando end of march!!! =D

YAY,
LOVE YOU GUYS! THANKS!LOVE YOU JESUS!
LOVE,JON
3rd round: Dinner
We made ricotta cheese meatballs with carrots and bok choy on top of Whole wheat spaghetti with a homemade roasted tomato sauce, topped with chili garlic basil infused olive oil and a side of creamed Kale with crisped onions.
This 3rd round was CRAZY! Because the moment we finished cooking, I rushed to change into my suit and straight to an interview down at Andaz Wall Street. It was intense I must say…I didn’t even know if we made it to the next round, but thankfully we did! So that was definitely crazy as well! Right after the interview, it was a rush back home to check on the slow cooked barbeque pulled pork and to get ready for small group dinner. That night, we also made a broccoli slaw with toasted almonds and cranberries which is SO DELICIOUS. The sauce is pretty much 1/4 cup mayo, 2T sugar 2T apple cider vinegar (you could always add more sugar or vinegar depending on your taste preference) but thats it! SO EASY! THANK YOU HANNA GIEM KIM!
So yeah 3 course dinner meal planning is…NOW!
will update later! =D
